Older project files should first be opened and saved in iTrain 4.1 before opening them in iTrain 5.x. After installing version 5.x you first have to enter the new license key for version 5 before you open the project file that you used in 4.1. That means that people who have bought a 4.x license have to buy an upgrade to be able to switch. It is recommended to always check the forum announcements before installing a new upgrade.
